Constipation is defined as having a bowel movement fewer than three times per week. With constipation stools are usually hard, dry, small in size, and difficult to pass. Some people who are constipated find it painful to have a bowel movement and often experience straining, bloating, and the sensation of a full bowel. Some people think they are constipated if they do not have a bowel movement every day. However, normal stool elimination may be three times a day or three times a week, depending on the person.
Constipation occurs if the colon’s muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly. As a result, stools can become hard and dry. Drinking liquids add fluid to the colon and bulk to stools, making bowel movements softer and easier to pass. Eating pears is a very helpful way to retain moisture in the stool. People who have problems with constipation should try to drink liquids every day. However, liquids that contain caffeine, such as coffee and cola drinks will worsen one’s symptoms by causing dehydration. Alcohol is another beverage that causes dehydration.
Many of my clients over the years have been suffering with constipation. The factor common to almost all of them was misalignment of the lower thoracic and upper lumbar vertebrae.
Constipation is a symptom not a disease.
When vertebrae go out of alignment they put pressure on the nerve root. This pressure alters the environment of the nerve causing interference to the free flow of communications between the brain and the body’s ‘waste disposal system’.The brain is then unable to control the system properly and it malfunctions causing disorders such as constipation, frequency of bowel movement, flatulence, Bloating, cramps etc.
Constipation and these other disorders usually resolve themselves when I correct these misalignments. The correction restores the flow of nerve energy and the body’s systems in that area can once again function correctly.
I believe that many of our everyday health disorders are caused by long term misalignment causing restriction to the flow of nerve energy. The brain is then unable to maintain the necessary chemical balance required for good health in the area controlled by the affected nerve root. Go to Symptoms and Disorders page for a list of many of the disorders which the body can heal when the misalignments are corrected.
